ARTC TA20 Track Protection: Lookout + Handsignaller

Description

This is a general certification for a person to be qualified and employed as a Lookout and Handsignaller on the ARTC Network, according to the Area Rules for TA20 – Victoria.

This course is about conducting hand signalling and lookout duties protecting work sites, level crossings and defective fixed signals located on the Victorian ARTC network.


What is received on completion?

Students who successfully complete all requirements of training and assessment for this course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the following units, and a Certificate of Achievement for TA20 Track Protection – Lookout + Handsignaller.

The units delivered in this course are:

  • TLIF2097 Use audible track warning devices
  • TLIF0027 Perform lookout duties
  • TLIF2082 Perform handsignaller duties
  • TLIW0007 Operate under track protection rules

How much does it cost?

Due to the structure of this course, participants will incur a fee for initial training, plus an additional fee to complete the final assessment and sign off.

How long does it take?

This course is conducted over 3 days from 8:00am to 4:00pm, then a further assessment day on completion of the on-the-job logbook.


What are the Entry Requirements?

Students must already hold the following units of competency or certifications prior to enrolling in this course:

  • TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor, or an equivalent unit.
  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • Compliant Certificate of Fitness (Category 1 Rail Medical)

Does this course require Work Placement?

Yes.

This course requires on-the-job learning and completion of a logbook to record your experience working in this role under supervision.


Do you need to bring Personal Protective Equipment?

Yes.

All students are required to wear PPE for training and assessment on GoTrain’s non-live rail environment. More details can be found on the Course Information flyer, which you can download via the tab above.
