Apply Rail Grinding Fundamentals (TLIW0001)

Do you need TLIW0001 training in preparation to work with ARTC?

Go Train Industry is offering this course for new and current ARTC track maintenance workers.

Description

This course involves the skills and knowledge required to apply rail grinding fundamentals in accordance with rail network standards, safeworking and regulatory requirements, and workplace procedures.

It includes:

  • determining job requirements,
  • grinding rail to repair surface defects, and
  • completing all required documentation.

This course relates to the grinding of new welds and weld repairs, wheel burns, rail batter and overflow in plain track.

People achieving competence in this course will need to fulfil the applicable state/territory legislated rail safety requirements and to comply with relevant codes of practice and/or guidelines.

Work is performed under supervision, generally within a team environment. It involves the application of routine operational principles and procedures when grinding rail and welds, as part of workplace activities across a variety of operational contexts within the Australian rail system.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this course at the time of publication.

How long does it take?

This course is conducted over 1 day from 7:30am to 3:30pm.


What are the Entry Requirements?

Participants must already hold the following units of competency or certifications prior to enrolling in this course:

  • TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor
  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • Compliant Certificate of Fitness (Category 1)
  • have an experienced and qualified workplace supervisor who can mentor the participant through the on-the-job Logbooks and work experience.

While it is not a mandatory prerequisite for entry into this course, Go Train highly recommends that students have already completed the Core Units – Accelerated Workshop and have spent a period of time working in the industry before attending the Apply Rail Grinding Fundamentals course.


Will I need to undertake Work Placement?

Yes.

This course requires practical experience on-the-job. Participants will use a logbook to complete the necessary experience, which must be signed by a workplace mentor before returning to Go Train Industry for further assessment.


Do you need to bring Personal Protective Equipment?

Yes.

You will need to provide your own PPE for classroom and practical training. More details can be found on the Course Information flyer, which you can download via the link above.
