Train to drive a train!

Start 2020 as a Trainee Train Driver.

This November, it’s your last chance to get behind the controls of a locomotive. Make the most of the opportunity to step toward your new career and begin our Trainee Locomotive Driver course.

The Trainee Locomotive Driver Training is the first step to become a Locomotive Driver Second Person or Train Driver Assistant and ultimately, a Locomotive Driver.

The course follows the training plan set out for TLI42615 Certificate IV in Train Driving, which is the qualification you will achieve if you finish all of the requirements over a 24-36 month period.

This course is completed in four stages. Stages 1, 2 & 3 are completed prior to employment and take place on consecutive days over a five week training period. Stage 4 of the training is then completed once you are employed in the industry.

What do you receive on completion?
Successful completion of Stages 1, 2 and 3 leads to a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment from the Transport & Logistics Industry Training Package. Once you have achieved this, you are able to apply for positions as a Locomotive Driver Second Person or Train Driver Assistant.
When you finish Stage 3 training, you will be issued with a logbook to record your on-the-job experience, working as a second person or driver assistant.
Once you have completed this logbook you would be able to begin the workplace requirements for training and assessment in Stage 4 of the course. On successful completion of Stage 4 over 24-36 months, you will achieve a Certificate IV in Train Driving (TLI42615).
