Track Vehicle Operator – ARTC NSW

Description

This training course is applicable to persons who operate track vehicles on the
ARTC NSW Rail Network.

The units delivered in this program are:

  • TLIC0016 Identify and respond to signals and trackside signs
  • TLIC0025 Pilot rail traffic within work on track authority limits
  • TLIC0083 Access rail track vehicle under a proceed authority
  • TLIC2054 Access rail track to run track vehicle within defined worksite
  • TLIF2097 Use audible track warning devices

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this course at the time of publication.

Duration:

Initial training and theory assessment: Four consecutive days, 8.00 am – 4.00 pm, in a classroom and non-live rail environment.

Workplace-based training and mentoring: Approximately 6-9 months, with a maximum duration of 12 months.

Final competency assessment: On completion of the on-job component, participants must attend a one-day competency assessment at Go-Train.


Entry Requirements:

This course may not be suitable for everyone. Participants must:

  • already hold the following units of competency, or an equivalent unit:
    • Safely access the rail corridor TLIF0020
    • Prepare to work safely in the construction industry CPCWHS1001
  • have been deemed competent to work as, and hold all of the required units of competency for, at least one of the following National Roles:
    • Rail Bound Plant Operator
    • Rail Bound Plant Operator – Light
    • Rail Bound Plant Operator – Medium/Heavy
    • Road-Rail Plant Operator
  • hold a Compliant Certificate of Fitness – Category 1
  • be employed or seeking employment with one of the following:
    • ARTC NSW
    • Safeworking Services Panel Member (SSPM)
    • or a Self-Performing Organisation (SPO)
  • have an experienced and qualified workplace supervisor who can mentor the participant through the work experience and Logbook requirements.

Work Placement requirements:

This course requires participants to:

  • receive workplace-based training in the job role from an experienced and qualified workplace mentor, while working in the rail corridor.
  • have the mentor record the participant’s progress in an On-Job Logbook.
