Course Overview
Think for a moment about some of the challenges you face working with people from your own culture. You may face difficulties in understanding their logic, ideas, personal differences and work ethics. These things can be a greater challenge when you are dealing with colleagues and customers from another culture.
The aim of this course is to develop your cultural awareness so you can communicate with people from other cultures in a clear, respectful and courteous manner. Since we live in a multicultural world, having a general knowledge of different cultures can help in creating a harmonious working environment. This will help you meet your customers’ needs and expectations.
Communication is generally seen as comprising of 70% body language, and 30% the spoken word, and this course focuses on understanding the mix and also raising your awareness of the varying norms that exist between cultures. The Tourism and Hospitality sectors are characterised by a multicultural workforce, and this course looks at overcoming the communication barriers that exist between cultures.
The key to dealing with being an employee of a multicultural workforce is to embrace the diversity, and look at the opportunities that it can bring. One of the reasons that the Hospitality industry is so dynamic and constantly on the move, is that it benefits from new tools and techniques from various cultures being constantly added to the mix. These benefits are a direct result of a multicultural workforce.
