Rail Welding – Aluminothermic

Description

This is a general course for a person to be employed as an aluminothermic rail welder, as per the RIW National Track and Civil Matrix.

The units delivered are:

  • TLIW0006 Heat and cut materials using oxy-lpg equipment for the rail industry
  • TLIW3015 Weld rail using aluminothermic welding process
  • TLIW0004 Grind rails

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this course at the time of publication.

How long does it take?

This course is conducted over four days from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm,
with an additional day on completion of Logbook requirements for final sign-off and practical assessment.


Will I need to undertake Work Placement?

Yes

Once you complete the face to face hours you are then required to complete a weld log that will gather your experience on the job. You will be required to have your supervisor sign off on the weld log as you complete each weld.
