For example, a shoe-manufacturer orders and receives supplies like leather sheets and rubber soles that are processed into a finished saleable product. Such a business could not operate without continuous supplies. Delivery and storage of supplies involves several steps and checkpoints. The flow of goods from delivery to storage, and finally to being processed, must run smoothly and efficiently to allow the business to continue operation without unnecessary delays. In hospitality and catering operations, the flow of raw materials is a little more complicated, as many of these raw materials are foods with a short shelf life and very specific storage requirements.
